Graduated from primary school and humanistic high school in Salzburg, from 1965 to 1968 Theresianic Academy of Military Sciences in the Wiener Neustadt. Served as a regular officer until 1972.
Adjoining he was engaged for further duties in Salzburg until 2004. Furthermore he studied history and ancient history as well; in 1991 he took his doctoral degree as Dr. phil.
From 1992 to 2004 he manged as administrator the Fortress Hohensalzburg.

In 2007 he published "Fortress Hohensalzburg - In the ecclesiastical Principality of Salzburg." a publication on the history of fortress of Salzburg , published as part of the TopSpot Guides series.
